Simferopol International Airport lies about 12 km northwest of Simferopol and is the largest airport on the Crimean peninsula. Internationally recognised as Ukrainian territory, SIP has been closed to ICAO-recognised civilian traffic since the 2014 annexation, with international carriers ceasing service. Before 2014 it was served by Ukraine International Airlines, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines and seasonal European leisure operators connecting the Black Sea coast.
